Rainbow Migration

Innovative organization supporting LGBTQI+ people through the asylum and immigration system

Rainbow Migration supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and intersex (LGBTQI+) people through the asylum and immigration system. It provides practical and emotional support for LGBTQI+ people seeking asylum to help improve their confidence and self-esteem and reduce isolation. It also provides specialist legal information and advice, and campaigns to improve the treatment of people seeking asylum. And it provides legal advice and information to LGBTQI+ people who want to live in the UK with their partners.

A central strand of Rainbow Migration’s work is service delivery. It provides practical and emotional support to improve self-esteem and confidence, reduce isolation, and help people access health services and housing. It also gives specialist legal information and advice to LGBTQI+ people who are seeking asylum or making partnership applications to live in the UK with their partners. It has partnerships with several law firms to whom it can refer asylum service users for quality legal representation.

In addition, Rainbow Migration carries out ‘influencing’ work by campaigning, doing policy work and strategic litigation to improve the asylum and immigration system. It engages directly with civil servants, parliamentarians, the government and the judiciary to create change. Rainbow Migration also offers training and support to other organisations. It works with lawyers, charities, the Home Office and others to improve the asylum and immigration system and services for LGBTQI+ people seeking asylum.
